In January 2021, I began a project documenting bread from different boulangeries around Paris in oil pastel.

Each boulangerie has its own recipes and methods, and bread is such an integral part of French culture. As an american, I was passionate about the idea of documenting these different breads as fine art pieces. They could begin a discussion not only on food heritage and french culture, but also the way in which we connect to history through food, food insecurity in the world, and artisanal craftsmanship. My hope was that this project could extend beyond the works themselves into projects with non-profit organizations which focus on services for the food insecure.

In winter 2021, prints of some of the works in this collection became available to purchase at Parisian bookshop Artazart.
